King Plus 1000W Full Spectrum LED Grow Light

best led grow lights

It’s important to know and trust who you’re doing business with. King Plus is a well-known name among indoor growers. They’re a China-based LED light manufacturing company. But don’t let that bother you because over 1,000 customers have given these grow lights a very high rating.

During their long run of more than 6 years, King LED has improved their product regularly to satisfy the needs of their valuable customers, and it can be seen in their product quality and performance.

King LED offers a full product line of regular LED grow lights in addition to COB LED grow lights.

Let’s start with Features of King Plus 1000W LED Grow Light.

Design and Build:

The King Plus 1000W LED Grow Light is built using quality materials.

It’s made with 100 ten watt double chip Epistar LEDs. King LED claims these are more efficient than 3 and 5 watt pieces.

The body dimensions are 12.2 x 8.26 x 2.36 inches and weighs around 6.4 pounds. The light supports worldwide voltage of 85-265 volts.

However, the design does lack two features that are available with comparable lights: Daisy chaining and separate Veg/Bloom mode switches.

Lack of daisy chaining is the bigger inconvenience if you plan on buying multiple units, while the veg and bloom modes are a convenient but unnecessary feature.

Now, let’s talk a bit about spectral ability for the King Plus 1000W double chip full spectrum LED grow light.

King Plus 1000w Light Spectrum:

Combination of all these color bands creates a well balanced and useful light spectrum for your cannabis plants. The major factor that plays a role in improvised photosynthesis process is Blue: Red ratio, and in the case of the King Plus 1000W LED Grow Light it’s well balanced.

A lot of the low cost LED grow lights have unbalanced spectrum meaning there’s a lot of blue and not enough red, or vice versa. That would result in your light being better for one growth phase, but only satisfactory for the other. So the fact that the King Plus emits evenly balanced intense blue and red spectrum makes it a true competitor in the low cost grow light segment.

From the below image you’ll get the logical representation of blue:red spectrum ratio.

FYI: More the blue means better growth during vegetation. More the red means better and more resinous flowers during blooming.

The King Plus 1000 Watt LED also includes ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) wavelengths – which not all LED grow lights include.

PPFD measurements:

PPFD values can be seen in the image above. When it comes to intensity of light to your plants, King Plus won’t disappoint. The PPFD readings are certainly enough to keep your cannabis plants satisfied.

900 umol for 12 hours during bloom is all you really need to max out your plant’s growth with regards to light. Below that will still be beneficial, so long as it doesn’t drop below ~450 umol. That’s the minimum amount your plants need to grow normally.

So the King Plus 1000 watt grow light’s PPFD values of 958 umol at 12″ and 595 umol at 18″ are respectable.

The mixed focusing angle of 90 and 120 degrees helps improve light penetration rate. It also helps in the balanced distribution of light across the canopy.

How does the King Plus 1000 watt compare on PPFD value against similar LED grow lights?

We compared the King Plus 1000w to two other popular models and found the following…

Comparison Light #1: One popular and similarly priced brand is doing 450 umol at 18″ height. That’s the bear minimum value your plants would need, and it decreases as you move outward.

Comparison Light #2: This popular brand and similarly priced model claimed the same PPFD value at the same heights.

Coverage:

Strong PPFD value is great, but how far from the center is a desirable PPFD value maintained? That’s the definition of LED grow light coverage.

For a low cost grow light like the King Plus 1000 watt model, you’ll be getting the most dense light within 2’x2′. That’s our conservative estimate based on PPFD values. However, King LED claims this 1000 watt model can cover 3.4′ x 3.8′ max.

It truly depends on what plants you’re growing and what growth phase they’re in. For cannabis growing you’ll want to stay on the conservative side.

If you go by our 2’x2′ estimate, buying two of these lights won’t cost you much to provide a solid 2ft by 4ft coverage area. A higher priced light will cost you considerably more to get a solid 3’x3′ coverage with a single lamp. At that point you might as well go with two or three King Plus 1000 watt grow lights and get solid coverage for 4′ x 4′.

That’s where we see true value in this full spectrum LED grow light.

For coverage, the King Plus 1000 watt gives you solid results in small expandable portions.

Power efficiency:

A grow light that draws a lot of power from the power outlet is useless. I’m looking at you, HPS systems and metal halide lamps! This King Plus 1000 watt light draws around 185 watts from the outlet. On the other hand, it can still provide you an 1000 watt equivalent light quality of an HPS grow light.

How does the King Plus 1000 watt compare to other 1000 watt LED grow lights on power consumption? We were able to quickly compare to three other popular 1000 watt LED grow light models.

One light draws the same amount of power. The second light draws 10% more, and the third light draws considerably less power.

The light drawing less power also had a 450 umol (33% lower) PPFD value at 18″ hanging height, yet it was priced the same. I know I’d pick the King Plus in that comparison. If you start going to that 450 umol PPFD value, the light is only providing the bear minimum a Cannabis plant would need.

Overall, the King Plus 1000 watt is turning out to look like a very solid grow light.

Heat Management:

Another important aspect to consider before buying a grow light is heat management and temperature balancing inside grow space.

The King Plus 1000 watt grow light has three small holes on the front glass that are for heat dissipation which in turn helps in increasing lifespan of LEDs as this design makes it less failure prone.

More importantly, this light comes with two considerably sized internal fans.

However, we don’t want to take a chance on cooling ability so we’ve taken the opinions of existing users. One person mentioned low heat output even in their small 3×3 grow tent. Another said his light was within half a foot from his plants (not recommended) and the heat was negligible. Many more commented on the heat being not much at all.

Customer Support:

The King plus 1000W LED Grow Light comes with 3 years of manufacturer’s warranty along with a money back return policy of 30 days in case you don’t feel satisfied after using it.

For the first 6 months King LED will pay shipping for new parts. After that you’ll need to cover shipping.

It’s a bit complicated compared to other manufacturer but looking at customer reviews and their satisfaction level on the Amazon it seems like you’ll rarely have to ask for a warranty claim.

There’s a huge sample size of reviews about this light and manufacturer. The final rating is quite high and we feel like this full spectrum LED grow light deserves two thumbs up.

Closing Words – King Plus 1000W LED Grow Light:

At an affordable rate, King Plus is offering a performance oriented and durable product for your indoor growing hobby.

However, at this price range, it may not be able to beat that premium and highly priced product which is specifically designed for professional use and experienced cultivators.

We must admit that it’s better than some of the best working cheap LEDs but has less potential compared to top notch pricey products out there.

However, for a beginner or intermediate person, this is the best fit as far as spectrum is a concern.

I’d recommend the King Plus 1000W LED Grow light for growers with an average coverage space of 3’ X 3’.

We’re suggesting this grow light because comparing it to other manufacturers it wins out when you consider factors like price, customer satisfaction, spectral abilities, coverage, and power efficiency as a concern.

If you want to replace your old-fashioned HPS system and you’re new to this LED technology, then we’d not suggest you go for High-end products like G8 LED MEGA 900W or 600W Full Spectrum Grow Light Advanced Platinum LED. Instead, we’d suggest you start with this King Plus 1000W LED Grow Light.
