Advanced Platinum Series P300 Grow Light: In-Depth 2019 Review
I was searching through low output LED grow lights to see which ones pack a punch compared to others.
The Advanced Platinum P300 is easily the best 300 watt LED grow light based on it’s near perfect spectrum and light intensity (PPFD), two of the most essential factors when growing plants indoors.
“You get what you pay for” holds true with this light. So you’ll pay a bit of a premium, but the Advanced Platinum P300 is what other 300 watt grow lights aspire to be.
I’ll review the PlatinumLED brand, the P300’s design, light spectrum, coverage ability, cooling ability, and warranty. We’ll also reveiw comments from Advanced Platinum P300 owners, and make a few comparisons to competitor products so you’ll have an idea of how it stacks up to similar grow lights.
I spent a lot of time on this research so we truly hope you’ll enjoy this review. The Advanced Platinum P300 is one of the best 300 watt LED grow lights around.
If you’ve researched a bit already, you may have figured out like me that Advanced Platinum is more of a top-shelf grow light brand. They offer a full product line of full spectrum LED grow lights to serious growers who demand the maximum yield possible.
Advanced Platinum claims their grow lights offer the best PPFD per watt of any grow light. Upon initial review, I think they could be right.
The P300 grow light just looks like quality at first glance. It weighs 12.8lbs and the metal body design gives you the feeling of looking at a new model phone compared to a 3 or 4 generation old phone. It’ll definitely withstand long term use.
This light comes with VEG and BLOOM switches. It’s not totally necessary but a lot of growers appreciate the feature – especially if you’re running multiple lights, it could save you energy for weeks at a time.
The Advanced Platinum P300 has a 90 degree secondary focusing lense paired with higher output, cooler running 3 watt LEDs. They took care to design this light right from the beginning, instead of slapping on extra features after installing inefficient LEDs.
Perfect Light Spectrum (PAR) and PPFD measurements:
One of two factors that’s incredibly important when searching for an LED grow light is the light spectrum the light provides.
You may or may not know the proper wavelengths are roughly between 400nm and 730nm. But did you know the spectrum provided by each LED grow light varies?
The Advanced Platinum P300 provides a complete spectrum for your plants, including ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths. As you’ll see in the video below, it blows away the closest competition.
The perfect blue and red wavelength balance isn’t the only benefit of this light. The photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), a measure of the light intensity at the plant leaf surface, is quite high. I estimate you’ll need 460 to 925 umol PPFD to get the most yield out of your plants.
The P300 puts out 1180 umol in the video test, which is plenty sufficient. You’ll get a core coverage of 3′ x 2′, and a coverage of 4.5′ x 3.8′ during the vegetative phase. This type of PPFD and coverage for a 300 watt LED grow light is simply unmatched. If you saw the video, other lights were putting out half the PPFD or less, meaning their coverage is also far less than the P300.
In the past, we used wattage to determine output with traditional lights, but that measurement is irrelevant to a plant’s growth. The amount and quality of light a plant receives will determine if it grows well or not.
For coverage, the P300 has far better coverage than many of its larger competitors. The lamp needs to be closer to the plants during the blooming phrase (about 18” away), but you can move it further during the vegetative phase (up to 24” away).
During blooming, the lamp can cover a 4-foot by 2-foot area, but during the vegetative stage, it can cover a larger patch of 4.5’ by 3.8’. The coverage depends on how far the lamp is situated above the plant.
The closer the lamp, the less coverage (but higher the PPFD), the farther the lamp, the more coverage (but less PPFD). During the blooming stage the plant needs a higher PPFD so the lamp should be placed closer. During vegetation, manufacturers usually recommend hanging the light a bit higher.
Cooling Fans and Heat Dissipation:
The P300 features two large fans on top, vents around the edges, and recently upgraded heat sinks on the inside of the unit. Generally speaking you should be concerned about heat generation, but lower output LED grow lights tend to run cool.
I looked at what some current owners said about heat. What I found was not one, but several people all said the same thing, the P300 doesn’t produce much heat. I would expect a top shelf grow light to have this issue handled, and it does.

5 year warranty is the longest we’ve seen offered, and only a few brands offer that long. So it really speaks to the confidence Platinum LED has in their products.
Advanced Platinum P300 Downsides:
Compared to similar grow lights, the initial price is a bit higher. As mentioned earlier, this cost is offset by the energy consumption savings, but the initial start-up cost is higher. You’re also paying for top notch performance that isn’t seen in other grow lights consuming 180 watts like this one.This product does hail from the beautiful island of Kaui, Hawaii, so any maintenance or service issues need to be serviced out of Hawaii.
A grower on Amazon left the product a critical review because they said it was hard for him to get in touch with anyone that worked at Platinum LED. I mean, if I lived on a Hawaiian island, I’d probably be pretty unreachable as well. With that said, an overwhelming majority of reviews for this product are positive.
When there are hundreds of perfect ratings, statistics dictate that you’re likely to fall within the satisfied range when purchasing. If not, the 5 year warranty has you covered.

Platinum LED Grow Lights aren’t marketed for a lazy pothead. With high PPFD intensities and low energy consumption, it’s designed to produce the best and most fruitful marijuana plants.
The Advanced Platinum P300 is especially impressive because of its affordable price point on Amazon. It’s the most powerful and value based option out when comparing 300 watt grow lights.
Is it worth buying? Absolutely! The technical aspects of this grow light rate higher than its more expensive competitors and their 5-year warranty really speaks about the company’s confidence in their products.

The P300 up front cost is higher than other 300 watt lamps, but you get that money back on your energy bill, and extra yield in your harvest. Plus, you’re growing a healthier plant with the light’s intense PPFD abilities, decent coverage and full spectrum.

The P300 is a very high quality grow light, as measured by the light spectrum and the high light intensity, which will have a direct effect on yield.
The P300 draws 93 watts in vegetative mode, and 180 watts at full operation.
All grow lights emit some heat. The Advanced Platinum P300 has cooling fans to keep temperatures at manageable levels.
The P300 arguably performs the best among grow lights drawing 180 watts of power.
The P300 emits a 12 band spectrum ranging from ultraviolet at the low end to infrared at the top end of the absorbable light spectrum.
