9 Best 600 Watt LED Grow Lights - Pictures, Specs, and More

600 watt led grow light

What’s the best 600 watt LED Grow Light on the market?

The best 600 watt LED grow light will meet the essential requirements you need to get good yields from your cannabis plants. That’s sufficient intensity, good spectrum, and good coverage area.

I’ve researched and listed the best 600 watt grow lights and listed them for you below. First, make sure to figure out what type of 600 watt grow light you want:

Two Types of 600 Watt LED Grow Lights:

You may be wondering why 600 watt grow lights can vary so much in cost if they’re all 600 watts? The truth is the 600 watt number can refer to one of two things, which results in a two totally different grow light strengths.

On most LED grow lights the 600 watt refers to the total wattage of LED chips used in the light. That’s not the total amount of power the light actually uses.

Then there are more expensive models that actually use 600 watts from the power outlet. Figure out which type you want and pick one of the best ones from the list below!

Best True 600 Watt LED Grow Lights:

These are all high quality, high performing LED grow lights, and so they tend to cost more. But if you’ve got the budget for them, they’re absolutely worthwhile. The difference in your grow between these and the lower cost lights will be noticeable.

Most of the 600 watt LED grow lights in this high end segment consume a 600 watts from your power outlet, compared to the more affordable 600 watt models where the 600 represents the total wattage of LEDs used.

#1. Optic 6 GEN 3 COB LED Grow Light (605w)

Free Grow Guide to Download

opticled optic 6 gen 3 cob led grow light(Click Image to View Full Details)

Optic LED is a popular COB Grow light brand that’s known for their quality lights. The company offers a full product line of COB LEDs and accessories. The Optic 6 is a true 600 watt model with an impressive coverage area and PPFD readings.

I think the combination of price, light intensity, spectrum options and features make this one of the best 600 watt LED grow lights available.

You can buy the Optic 6 with one of two spectrum choices: One version contains 3000k COBS, the other version contains 3000k and 5000k COBs.

This Optic 6 uses six 80 watt CREE CXB 2540 COBs, and 96 supplemental 5 watt Bridgestar/EpiLEDs. Secondary lenses are installed over each COB, increasing intensity significantly. CREE is top shelf when it comes to LEDs so whenever you see CREE on a grow light, you know you’ve got quality.

One unique feature I really like about this light is the timer that’s built into the side of the light. You don’t see built in timers in nearly any other brand of light, but it’s a big convenience to be able to set it and forget it.

Spectrum:

As I mentioned earlier you get two choices on spectrum, either 3000K or 3000K and 5000K mixture. I’d chose the mix because it’s a better balace for all phases of plant growth, whereas the 3000K might be more geared toward flowering. But it’s ultimately your choice.

optic 6 spectrum

As you can see, this light offers powerful blue and red spectrum. It’s ideal because you don’t want a light that’s heavy on one or the other. Balance is key.

The Optic 6 spectrum covers 380nm to 780nm wavelengths which includes UV-A and near infrared – two key wavelengths for boosting THC, CBD, yield, and ensuring your plant physically forms properly.

Light Intensity and Coverage Area:

optic 6 ppfd

Coverage area on this grow light is 4×4 for vegetative and bloom phases. One important thing to note is that your plants will actually receive usable PPFD intensity at the furthest edges of the Optic 6’s coverage.

It’s a real achievement by Optic LED because the PPFD on most other lights just isn’t significant at the furthest edges of coverage. But this type of light intensity is exactly what you want for maximum yield.

Definitely one of the best 600 watt LED grow lights around.

#2. Crecer Lighting PanthrX

crecer panthrx

best led grow lights

The Crecer PanthrX is certainly one of the best 600 watt LED grow lights on the market. It’s a little more pricey than the first option, but still one of my favorite 600 watt LED grow lights. The coverage on this one is also a little more uniform.

This light offers a full white spectrum, uniform 4×4 foot coverage, and a competitive price among high end grow light models.

The PanthrX pulls a true 600 watts from the power outlet, and uses the wattage quite efficiently as it emits 2.5 micromoles of light per joule consumed.

Near Perfect Spectrum:

panthrx spectrum

Spectrum is one of the main factors to consider when you’re buying an LED grow light.

The industry has more or less settled on white light spectrum being ideal for growing fruit and vegetable bearing plants, including cannabis. That’s why you see most of the high quality grow lights now emit a white light spectrum.

What’s white light spectrum? It’s the same red & blue seen in most grow lights, but it has some green, orange and yellow mixed in as well. The light is emitted in a white color, not purple.

Light Intensity and Coverage Area:

The coverage area for these lights is similar to other grow lights on Amazon. The PanthrX will cover 4ft by 4ft with uniformly high intensity.

The difference with the PanthrX that’s more uncommon is the light remains intense even at the furthest edges of the coverage area.

panthrx ppfd

best led grow lights

If you take a peek at the image above you’ll see even at the edge of the 4×4 coverage area, the Crecer Lighting PanthrX is providing 500-800 uMol of light when hanging 24 inches above the canopy. You can safely hang it a bit lower, perhaps 18-21 inches and the intensity will be even better.

#3. HLG 600

hlg 600 watt led grow light

The HLG 600 is a true 600 watt grow light you can purchase and use for up to 5×5 feet of grow space. This grow light comes in two versions, the R-Spec which is good for full cycle growing, or the B-Spec which is a blue heavy light spectrum that’s good for veg only.

Why is this one of the best 600 watt LED grow light options? Because HLG uses the best quality materials in their products compared to cheaper brands. I’ve seen it with my own HLG 650R and I’ve heard it from others too.

Spectrum:

hlg 600h spectrum

With the HLG 600, you’ll get HLG’s signature R-Spec spectrum, which is 3500K white light plus 660nm red diodes. It’ll get you through all phases of plant growth.

Light Intensity & Coverage Area:

HLG 600 R Spec LED Grow Light

The coverage area on the HLG 600 is 5×5 ft for flowering and 6×6 feet for veg. Just what you’d expect from such a powerful LED grow light.

In terms of light intensity, the HLG 600 may be the best 600 watt LED grow light available. The light measures 1200 PPFD at 24 inch hanging height, and goes to 700 out at the edges. You’ll be able to get a very solid cannabis yield with that intensity.

#4. Timber LED Redwood VS

timber led redwood vsbest led grow lights

The Timber LED Redwood VS is a true 600 watt COB LED grow light. It uses powerful Vero 29 Gen 7 COB LEDs to cover a large area of 4×4 feet.

The Redwood VS is the flagship in the Timber LED lineup, and features high quality white spectrum hand built to order in San Diego. It’ll take about 5 days to ship out – not that bad.

For spectrum you’ll be able to specify 3000, 3500, or 4000 kelvin temperature. 3500K is the most popular option and is ideal for seedling to flower growth phases, while 4000k is more ideal for the vegetative phase only, and 3000k is more ideal for the flowering phase only.

The light is fully dimmable from 10% to 100%. It’s a nice feature to have considering how strong these lights can be when hanging low.

Peak intensity is around 1350 uMols, so it’s plenty to get a maximum yield out of your cannabis plants. 40 moles of light – 925 uMol during a 12 hour light cycle is all you’ll need. Above that plants experience diminishing returns on yield.

Add in the 3 year warranty and this is one of the best 600 watt LED grow lights on the market!

#5. G8LED Mega 600W

g8led 600 watt

best led grow lights

This G8LED 600 watt LED grow light is the first on my list to feature a purple spectrum, but this is an award winning light and it deserves a mention on the list.

They were named the 2018 Wiki Top Ten #1 LED grow light. They were also named “Best Grow Light” in 2016 and 2017 by High Times Magazine.

This is also the first like that isn’t a true 600 watt model. It pulls 380 watts of power from the outlet.

Truth be told, DormGrow has spent a hefty amount of money and time in research and development. Moreover, each passing year this brand has updated their grow lights to make them more efficient and durable.

Moving on to light quality and efficacy, the G8LED is among the top in the pack.

The G8LED 600W LED Grow Light produces highly efficient light with 8 band spectrum along with high quality and real IR and UV.

You may be wondering how an award winning light produces only 8 bands of light as opposed to the normal 12 bands? G8LED manufacturer Dorm Grow discovered through research that 12 bands are actually wasteful and going to 8 from 12 improves power usage without affecting plant yield.

PPFD value measured in this grow light from the height of 16” is 1480 uMol which is best in the segment at this price.

With highly efficient brightness this grow light by G8LED can easily cover a grow space of 4×4 ft.

Plants grown beneath this grow panel seems to be healthier and greener compared to other low-quality light panels.

G8LED doesn’t provide a switch for different grow cycles because turning off the red diodes during vegetation will make this grow panel underutilized.

Dorm Grow’s research team has thoroughly thought through the design of this panel, and while other manufacturers are wasting time implementing

They’ve also designed and developed a dedicated 90W Flower Booster which works as a boon for the plants in the blooming stage.

This grow panel is equipped with high quality, and the USA made LEDs which are tested well before assembly.

Although it can produce light equivalent to a 600W HPS grow light, it only draws 380 watts from your wall outlet. Yeah, if you don’t believe, then you can compare its yield with the yield of an HPS of 600W grow light.

G8LED 600W grow light is observed to be colder than any other grow light even after continuous use of 24 hours. Though we recommend to turn it off for at least 2-4 hours every day to avoid any harm to your plants.

Credit goes to their heat dissipation technology.

Definitely it’s one giving a strongest competition on the market to Advance Platinum P600 LED.

With all these features and benefits you’ll be getting a stellar customer support from G8LED for a period of two years.

#6. Advanced Platinum P600

best led grow lights

Advanced Platinum is a brand known for its quality and quantity. They offer a variety of full spectrum LED grow lights to cultivators. Platinum LED markets their lights as the best PPFD values per watt of any LED grow light. That’s the type of quality you need to grow abnormally large marijuana plants.

Advanced platinum series P600 is equipped with high quality of LEDs and efficient auto-switching drivers to prevent power overload.

The P600 doesn’t pull 600 watts from your wall it pulls 184w in veg mode and 364 during flower mode.

It utilizes 200 Bridgelux and CREE LEDs of 3W each to transmit the best quality of light to your plants. So the 600 represents LED wattage. These LEDs have a lifespan of 100,000 hours.

The Advanced Platinum P600 is equipped with voltage sensing and adjusting power drivers. The light can adapt to all international power cords, adapting from 85v to 260v. It’s built with 90 degree focusing lenses to help intensify the light output to your canopy.

The exterior is sleek and durable, able to withstand long term use. Simply make sure to keep it away from dripping water.

Advanced Platinum P600’s Full Light Spectrum:

The Advanced Platinum LED P600 is a modern example of complete artificial light equivalent to real sunlight. This P600 LED grow light by advanced platinum generates a complete 12 band spectrum along with infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) bands.

The finely tuned spectrum will help your cannabis plants grow regardless of what phase of growth they’re in. It boosts cell formation and leaf building in your marijuana plants which results in high quality resinous yields in return.

Take a look at the video in the next section to see the light spectrum measurement right after the gentleman measures the PPFD output.

best led grow lights

The P600 also won best spectrum while comparing G8LED VS Platinum LED.

Intensity (PPFD): Unbeatable Results

Here comes the most potent factor of the Advanced Platinum P600 LED grow light.

Before revealing its PPFD results, it’s important to be able to decipher PPFD measurements first.

PPFD is short for Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density, or the intensity of photosynthesis enabling light hitting the surface of your plants. Most fruit or veggie producing plants need 30-40 moles of light per day in order to realize benefits compared to normal sunlight. The same holds true for marijuana plants. After working out the math, 308 – 617 umol for an 18 hour vegetation light cycle. The closer to 617 umol the better.  For flowering you’ll need 462 to 925 umols of light for 12 hours per day. The closer to 925 umol the better.

Where does the Advanced Platinum P600 come in on this front? As you’ll see in the video below, at an 18″ hanging height, it’s producing ~1160 umols which is more than enough for your cannabis plants to realize maximum benefit of grow lights when used in 12 hour cycles. then it has performed above the expectation concerning PAR. Yeah, it has been recorded with 1605 uMol from the height of 12”.

It’s an impressive level of brightness, not a level of power seen with other cheap LED grow lights.

Above all, intensity of Platinum LEDs is far better than some of the top rated COB Lights too.

Have a look at the PPFD and spectrum test video below:

PlatinumLED Grow Lights P600 PAR Test and Overview

The only other 600 watt LED grow light getting close to this type of reading is G8LED for which you’ll pay considerably more. We looked at five other 600 watt LED grow light models and they aren’t even close.

Advanced Platinum P600 Coverage Area:

PlatinumLED claims the P600 will cover 6’ X 3.75’ during vegetation and 5’ X 2-2.5’ during flowering. I like to be a bit more conservative because sometimes companies can exaggerate for marketing reasons. I’d personally estimate this light can cover 5x3ft during veg and 4x2ft during flowering.

Massive coverage is the primary reason for it being one of the best 600 watt LED grow lights.

Warranty:

Platinum LED offers a generous 5 year warranty on the P600 LED grow light. You just don’t see 5 year warranties often unless a company really believes in the quality of their product.

Best 600 Watt LED Grow Lights:

The grow lights in this segment are significantly more affordable, but will provide you with a more moderate yield. The 600 in the name of these grow lights represents the total LED wattage instead of the total power consumption of the higher end segment above this. These lights also have a smaller coverage area, but they still get the job done well. These are the best 600 watt LED grow lights if you’re looking for a more affordable one.

Yeah, this unique 600W grow light comes with separate Red, White, Blue mode switches which provides comfortable switching between various phases of your marijuana plants’ lifecycle.

As the name suggests it’s a PAR600 variant, meaning from the height of 24” recorded PPFD Values are more than 600 uMol.

A secondary optical lens helps in magnifying light and increases PPFD and efficiency of produced light.

With all this fantastic light you’ll be getting an excellent coverage of 3’ X 3’ for your grow space.

For power consumption, the Viparspectra PAR600 utilizes only 274W maximum and with this low power draw it still produces 600W HPS/MH equivalent light for your grow space.

#8. Mars Hydro TS 600W LED Grow Light

best led grow lights

The Mars Hydro TS 600w LED grow light is one of Mars Hydro’s latest releases. It’s one of the best 600 watt LED grow lights because it offers a modern design, impressive performance, and overall good value compared to other 600 watt grow light models.

Spectrum And Light Intensity:

The TS 600 uses the same spectrum as its larger sized siblings in the Mars Hydro TS series.

More specifically, the spectrum on the Mars Hydro TS 600 is made up of 660nm (red), along with 3200-4200 kelvin, and 5200-6800 kelvin white spectrum. That’s enough to get your plant through all phases of growth.

The TS 600 has pretty impressive light intensity for a small grow light this size. 800 micromoles at 12 inch hang height is nothing to sneeze at. Of course, this light likely won’t cover a large area, but neither will the other low end models mentioned here.

One impressive aspect of the TS 600w is that Mars Hydro was able to get the quantum board design down to a small size for small applications.

FAQ:

What’s the best 600 watt grow light?

The best 600 watt grow light is the G8LED 600 watt model. Compared to other 600 watt grow lights, it covers the most space, and emits high light intensity.

What’s the best cheap 600 watt grow light?

The best cheap 600 watt grow light is the Viparspectra V600. It provides a good spectrum and decent coverage area compared to other 600 watt grow lights.

How much does it cost to run a 600 watt grow light?

There are many factors that affect the cost to run a 600 watt grow light. The high quality G8LED 600 watt consumes 380 watts, while the Viparspectra V600 consumes 260 watts. Considering the average US cost per kilowatt hour is $0.13, it may cost you between $25.55 to $37.34 for a 6-week vegetative growth period using those wattage numbers. A 10-week flowering period would cost between $28.39 and $41.49 using the above wattage numbers. You can check out my Grow Light Cost Calculator to play around with more numbers.

What distance from plants to hang a 600 watt grow light?

In most cases 18 inches from your plants is a safe and effective distance to hang your 600 watt grow light. If you’re using a powerful grow light like G8LED, Advanced Platinum, or anything emitting more than 400 micromoles (uMols), you should raise the light higher (~24-28 inches) during the vegetative phase when your plants utilize less intense light. The less expensive grow lights typically don’t emit much over 400 uMols, so they’re safe to hang at 18 inches distance from your plant.

Do 600 watt grow lights require a ballast?

600 watt grow lights only require ballasts if the grow light is a High Pressure Sodium or Metal Halide style grow light. 600 watt LED grow lights do not require ballasts.

What’s the average coverage space for a 600 watt grow light?

The average coverage space for a 600 watt grow light is between 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet and 2 feet by 2 feet. A high end 600 watt grow light such as the G8LED 600 watt, or the Advanced Platinum P600 will cover up to double that space.

How many plants can I grow with a 600 watt grow light?

You can grow as many plants as you can fit in your grow light’s respective coverage area. If your 600 watt grow light covers 2 feet by 2 feet, you can fit one large plant, or 2-3 smaller plants.
